filezilla connection issues

mike(beginner) Last year 
i installed filezilla client about a month ago and i have yet to be able to make it connect. i get an error message saying command is tainted by router or firewall so i bypassed tham and went directly to the modem and i received the same error. i also turned the firewall off. is there any other thing that needs to be done that i am not aware of? i have windows vista home premium. thank you for the help.

Check with your DNS provider or Web Hosting provider the proper settings. Otherwise just access the ftp through IE or Mozilla.

Firewall settings is unimportant. Just chack your login pass. For the first chack, can you connect to ftp by Windows Explorer.
